Japanese "Eco-Heroes" Do It Again

The dedicated eco-activist folks at BeGood Café in Tokyo, hosts of the International Ecovillage Conference in Tokyo in 2007 (See “Eco-Heroes” in Japan), did it again. Ecovillage Conference Tokyo 2009 took place April 24-26, 2009, at Tokyo Women’s Plaza of United Nations University in Tokyo.

Keynote speakers were Ross Jackson and Hildur Jackson, co-founders of Gaia Trust in Denmark and early activists in the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN); May East, Brazilian musician, ecovillage activist, and Findhorn member; Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, director of the Sarvodaya Shramadana organization in Sri Lanka; Professor Koji Itonaga, Director of the Permaculture Center of Japan; and Dr. Akio Inoue, natural building advocate in Japan, India, and Afghanistan.
The Permaculture Center of Japan is Conference co-organizer. Sponsors and supporters include Japan Ecovillage Promotion Project, GEN, UNHABITAT, UNITAR, and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
Keynote speaker Hildur Jackson will write about the 2009 Japanese ecovillage conference in the July issue of this newsletter.
